More Control, Same Power? | Luzz Inferno Frozen Review

Luzz is one of the hottest brands right now, and the Inferno is their most popular paddle.

They recently released a variant called the Inferno Frozen.

Let's see if it's better than the original.

Intro

My name is Pickle Li. I'm a 5.0 pickleball player and I've reviewed over 50 paddles on this channel. I created MyPickleList, which does community-driven paddle ratings, and there are currently over 1,000 ratings.

Reminder: This is a first impressions review, not a full review.

I played with this for a few days, so I can't speak to long-term durability. It is gen 4, so core durability should be solid.

Quick Specs Overview

The Inferno Frozen has the same general shape and design as the original Inferno — I really like the new look. Clean distressed branding, white edge guard with ice-crack detail.

Performance-wise, Luzz tuned the core for more control and dwell time vs the original.

• Setup: Stock the whole time — static weight about average

On-Court First Impressions

Pop

Above-average pop — pretty poppy overall. Even with extra dwell vs the original, pop feels similar. I let an Inferno main try the Frozen — he didn't notice much difference.

Counters are very good, as you'd expect from a poppy power paddle.

Control & Feel

Light and poppy — not as hollow as Boomstik or RPM Q2.

Vs the original Inferno: more dwell — ball sinks in a bit more. Slightly denser and softer feel, but pretty close in overall pop.

Grit: Slightly grittier OOB (above average), but no long-lasting texture — wore down and feels less gritty now. Would love to see Luzz add a durable grit option given their popularity.

Spin: Average-good — no complaints.

Sweet spot: Good even stock — especially strong for an elongated. I'd lose points misjudging reset height more than edge hits, which I prefer.

Dwell made it nicer than the original in some ways, but slightly less intuitive on resets — sometimes hard to predict how high the ball would pop. Probably needed more dial-in time. Played well overall in stock form.

Drives: Didn't have my best success day one — maybe heavier swing weight / mistiming. Got used to it later.

Power

High-tier power paddle — lots of pop on serves, returns, and drives. Had to watch how hard I hit to keep balls in.

Not quite the all-court Inferno some marketing suggested — similar firepower to the original, which is fine by me.

Swing weight feels a bit heavier swinging around (I don't look at swing-weight numbers in reviews to stay unbiased). First-day drives suffered; improved with more reps.

Inferno Frozen = slightly softer Inferno with more dwell. Same general power — not an all-court downgrade if you wanted Inferno pop.

Rating: 9/10 (same as original Inferno)

Inferno's strength is consistency and sweet spot for an elongated power paddle. If I had to pick, I'd take the Frozen — I enjoy the extra dwell and they're similar otherwise.

Heavier swing weight was the main nit; got used to it by later sessions.

Good fit if you liked the Inferno and want something slightly softer with more dwell — easy transition, not a totally different paddle.
