Joysent GearFoam Max Review: Is This Pickleball Paddle Slept On?

Gen 4 was the innovation of 2025 — it drastically increased paddle durability, and most brands have been making full foam cores ever since. Lately a lot of brands have also been experimenting with dual-density foam (varying densities in the core).

I have a paddle here most of you probably never heard of: the Joysent GearFoam Max. I haven't seen much about it other than one really positive review.

Let's see how it plays.

Intro

I played with this for a few days, so I can't speak to long-term durability.

Quick Specs Overview

The Joysent GearFoam Max features a dual-density foam core with a gear-looking foam ring around it.

It also has an 18K carbon fiber face, which reminds me of the Diadem paddles back in the day.

• Price (at time of review): ~$130 before code — budget gen 4 territory
• My sample weight: 7.62 oz (on the light side)

Build quality doesn't feel the highest-end in hand, but it is on the cheaper side of the market.

On-Court First Impressions

Pop

Pop is probably average. I wouldn't call this aggressive — you probably need to add your own power on counters. Not an effortless bag or anything like that.

Control & Feel

Because of how this paddle plays, I found it very easy to control on resets. Using the same general form, my resets were just a bit lower, which is probably good in most cases.

The feel is on the soft and dense side of gen 4 paddles, even at 14mm. This is probably one of the most plush paddles I've tried recently.

For an elongated paddle, the sweet spot is on the better side. I didn't find myself complaining about it, which I sometimes do on elongated shapes.

Spin was decent — about average for a good paddle. Despite how the face looks, the grit felt like it wore down pretty fast, if not faster than expected.

Overall I surprisingly enjoyed the feel. It was just super easy to control — you can full swing and stuff stays in, and resets don't go too high. I didn't really have trouble adjusting to it.

In terms of feel it's not the most exciting paddle out there, but it'll help you play good pickleball.

Power

As you may have guessed, this is an all-court paddle.

If you put in effort, you can get the job done — the power just isn't going to end points for you without trying. The upside is you don't really have to hold back, which is probably beneficial for some players.

I am a bit impressed with the Joysent GearFoam Max. I'll be honest — this is basically your generic Chinese brand paddle, and the quality on this one specifically feels on the cheaper side (even though most paddles are made in China). But it brought some qualities I just haven't played with recently.

It's very soft, with a large sweet spot for an elongated shape — that made resets and getting to the kitchen easy. It could be me playing with an all-court paddle for the first time in a while, but I really enjoyed the control.

Rating: 8/10

A very controllable elongated paddle that helps you play good pickleball. The firepower could leave you wanting more, but it's playable and probably ideal for some.

Good fit if you want a more durable all-court gen 4 paddle. A lot of recent releases have been power-focused — this could be a budget change of pace.

It's not going to blow anyone away. It just has a nice plush gen 4 feel paired with control to match.
